Web applications

Wow - I never knew that these were available on the web and would be an excellent application to recommend to the patrons of the library. It is interesting that Zoho is more advanced and offers the user more options for their work. I will definitely be recommending these applications in the future.

Mashups

Hmmmm I'm not sure how useful these applications are for the library. They are visually pleasing and are quite interesting, however I don't think they have any practical purpose in the library. I looked at the Wikipediavision Mashup - it utilises Google Maps to show where people have updated Wikipedia in the world. Worth a look!

Podcasts

Tweet Tweet!

I have been exploring the world of podcasts and have found them quite interesting. Many people think you need an ipod or iphone to listen to these but you can simply download these files to the computer. Podcasts share extensive pieces of knowledge on a variety of subjects. This can be utilised by the library service through the library signing up to a podcast service and the public can access all of the podcasts for free. Definitely something I will be looking into for the future.

YouTube & Google Video

I have to say there is a VARIETY of videos on YouTube - I think there is something there for anyone! It definitely enables greater society to get their 15...seconds of fame! It is interesting the impact that these videos can have on the global community. Some videos (usually the funny) can be viewed by anyone, anytime, any place... scary! I like that people have achieved global fame from a short 30 second video!

YouTube and Google videos can make learning fun and insightful. The library could utilise this for a Nationwide read-a-long or perhaps a guided tour of the library. The possibilities are endless!!!

That's all from the nest at the moment!

Wikis

Hello once again,

I just spent sometime looking at all those wiki pages... it is interesting to see that people are so willing to collaborate on a variety of topics. Here I was thinking that Wikipedia was the only source of Wikis!

It would be great if the libraries in Australia could create a site where people could come and post their reviews about books, movies and CDs that they have borrowed. This could really help people out when they are looking for items to borrow.

Until next time.. keep tweeting!!!

RSS Activity

Wowie! This activity was challenging, however, I have been able to subscrib to a number of different blogs and sites that will help me stay in touch with the world.

I would recommend that people play around with the process and it will become a lot easier!
